Safety and Crime Prevention Program Security and Safety in Fairfax…

…Protecting our Neighbors, Safeguarding our Future

The ability to develop a strong, viable neighborhood that attracts new residents and businesses hinges on addressing safety and security related concerns and issues head-on, using all available means. In Fairfax, we have several anchor institutions with whom we collaborate that are committed to building a neighborhood that is a great place to live, work and visit.

In 2012, a security initiative was launched with several law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction in Fairfax. FRDC and the Cleveland Clinic Police Department (CCPD) hosted a round table conversation and tour with the chiefs of these agencies resulting in a collaborative approach to putting more eyes on the streets and enforcement in Fairfax.

Since then, CCPD in collaboration with the Cleveland Police Department Third District (CPD), conducted several self-defense classes at The Langston Hughes Center, Fairfax Schools, the PNC Fairfax Connection and other area businesses. Classes included general safety awareness and back to school awareness, A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, GREAT (Gang Resistance, Education and Training) Program, and the Self Defense/Streetwise Program.

In 2014, foot patrols will be reintroduced in and around strategic areas in the Fairfax neighborhood to place more eyes closer to the street and to build personal relationships with residents and business owners.

The neighborhood looks forward to the annual Safety Fair at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and the first Fairfax Business Security Summit for Fairfax businesses, a collaboration between FRDC, CPD and CCPD.

There will be more to come. Check back for the information.
